Grounding and Shielding
If using shielded cable (recommended for both VRF bus and RS485 bus in noisy environments), ground the shield at one end only – typically at the BMS controller side for RS485, and at the outdoor unit or main ground for the VRF side. The adapter’s ground reference should be tied to the RS485 common if provided. Proper grounding will reduce communication errors.
Connecting to VRF System
Wiring the EGI VRF Adapter to the VRF Communication Bus
The EGI VRF Adapter integrates seamlessly with VRF HVAC systems via their two-wire communication buses (H/L, F1/F2, X/Y). Each adapter supports communication with up to 32 Indoor Units (IDUs). The adapter’s VRF interface terminals must be connected directly to the VRF communication bus, tapping onto existing communication lines in parallel. Carefully observe polarity and follow specific wiring guidelines provided by the VRF system manufacturer.
WARNING
All installation, wiring, and configuration must be performed by a certified electrician or qualified HVAC technician.
Always disconnect power from the VRF system and related control equipment before beginning installation or servicing. Failure to do so can cause severe injury, equipment damage, or system malfunctions.
Do not disconnect or alter existing VRF system wiring. Integrate the adapter by paralleling it onto the existing communication lines without disturbing current connections. Use insulated twisted-pair cable appropriate for communication, maintaining a daisy-chain wiring topology. Avoid star wiring configurations or excessively long stub lines, as these will negatively impact system reliability. If the VRF network has multiple branches, choose an optimal connection point ensuring signal continuity and integrity.
When the VRF manufacturer specifies dedicated central-control terminals (e.g., “F1/F2” terminals found on many Daikin VRF systems), connect the EGI VRF Adapter directly to these terminals, treating the adapter as an additional central controller.
CAUTION
Incorrect polarity, improper wiring practices, or insufficient insulation can result in VRF system communication errors, equipment damage, or system failure.
Failure to follow the VRF manufacturer’s guidelines or unauthorized modifications to system wiring may void the manufacturer’s warranty and could affect future serviceability of the equipment. Always refer to the original VRF equipment manufacturer’s documentation to confirm installation compatibility and warranty conditions before proceeding.

RS485 Wiring Instructions
Connect the adapter’s RS485 terminals to your Building Management System (BMS) or controller’s RS485 communication network. Typically, RS485 wiring uses a two-core shielded twisted-pair cable with terminals clearly marked as A(+) and B(–). Some systems label terminals as D+/D– or may use reversed polarity conventions; ensure consistent polarity throughout your wiring.
Recommended Wiring Practices
Daisy-chain topology: Connect the adapter in parallel along the RS485 communication bus. Avoid star configurations to prevent signal reflection and communication issues. If branching is necessary, use appropriate RS485 repeaters.
Termination resistor (120Ω): If the EGI VRF Adapter is located at the end of the RS485 line (furthest from the master controller), install a termination resistor (~120Ω) between the A and B terminals to reduce signal reflections. Confirm whether the opposite end of the line (master controller or other devices) also includes termination.
Cable specifications: The maximum total length of RS485 communication cable can be up to 1200 meters. Always use a high-quality shielded twisted-pair cable specifically rated for communication applications.
Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) prevention: Maintain a separation of at least 15 cm between the RS485 communication cables and power cables or high-voltage lines to minimize electromagnetic interference.
WARNING
- All wiring and configuration activities must be performed by certified electricians or qualified HVAC technicians.
- Disconnect power from all relevant devices before beginning installation or servicing tasks.
CAUTION
- Incorrect wiring, improper termination, or inappropriate cable selection can lead to communication failures, damage to equipment, or loss of adapter functionality.
- Modifications to factory-configured settings must be communicated at the time of ordering. Unauthorized adjustments may void warranties and impact system performance.

Troubleshooting Basic Issues
This section provides concise troubleshooting steps for resolving common initial commissioning issues with the EGI VRF Adapter. Always follow these recommendations carefully before proceeding to advanced configuration or contacting technical support.
No Power / LED Issues
- Verify DC Voltage and Polarity:
Use a voltmeter to confirm that the adapter’s power input terminals receive proper voltage within the specified range (12-30 V DC). - Check Polarity:
Ensure the polarity (positive and negative) connections match the adapter’s markings clearly. Incorrect polarity will prevent the adapter from powering up and can cause permanent damage. - Power Supply Replacement:
If the voltage and polarity are correct but the adapter remains unresponsive (no LEDs lit), consider replacing the power supply with a known-working unit of suitable voltage and rating.
VRF Communication Issues (ADE LED Off)
- Allow Adapter Time to Scan:
Upon initial startup, the adapter requires several minutes to scan and detect all connected VRF indoor units (IDUs). Scanning times vary depending on the VRF system brand and number of connected IDUs. - Re-check VRF Wiring:
Confirm correct and secure connections to the VRF communication terminals (H/L, F1/F2, X/Y). Consult your specific VRF system manufacturer’s installation documentation to verify correct wiring, terminal usage, and polarity. - Inspect for Interference or Loose Connections:
Ensure the communication bus connections are tightly secured, twisted-pair cables are used, and avoid excessively long stubs or star wiring topology.
Modbus Communication Issues
- Verify RS485 Wiring and Polarity:
Confirm correct RS485 wiring polarity throughout the bus (A to A, B to B). Miswired or reversed polarity is the most common cause of Modbus communication issues. - Check Termination Resistor (120Ω):
Ensure a termination resistor is correctly installed at the end of the Modbus line if the EGI VRF Adapter is the last device in the network. The lack of proper termination may cause data loss or communication errors. - Confirm RS485 Settings:
Double-check that the Modbus Master (BMS or controller) matches the adapter’s default communication settings (9600 bps, 8 data bits, Even parity, 1 stop bit, Slave ID 1). If different settings were requested during ordering, ensure these settings match on both ends.
ZigBee Communication Issues
- Check Gateway and Adapter Range:
Verify that the adapter is placed within a recommended indoor range of 30–50 meters from the ZigBee gateway. - Inspect for Interference:
Ensure no metallic obstructions or strong electromagnetic interference (EMI) sources (e.g., routers, transformers, metal cabinets) are placed near the adapter or ZigBee gateway, as these can significantly affect wireless communication reliability. - Retry Pairing Procedure:
If ZigBee pairing was unsuccessful, repeat the pairing procedure (press and hold SET button for 5 seconds until a long beep is heard) after verifying the placement and eliminating potential RF interference sources.
General Recommendations for Persistent Issues
